PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
This position will support Goodwill Industries of San Antonio by driving bobtail trucks to pick-up materials at Attended Donation Station sites, Drop Boxes, donors’ homes and businesses. Transport materials and merchandise to Goodwill retail stores; load and unload trucks. Support the organization in its mission to help change lives through the power of work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential functions:
1.Drive assigned truck to specified destination, such as place of business, residence or attended donation station, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and safety.
2.Inspect assigned truck by following established vehicle maintenance procedures, using a vehicle maintenance checklist to check equipment and supplies.
3.Load material onto vehicle; secure material to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
4.Provide customer/donor service by preparing donor receipt for items picked-up at place of residence or business in a friendly and courteous manner.
5.Maintain telephone or radio contact with transportation personnel to receive delivery or pick-up instructions.
6.Load, unload, and move materials and donated goods including furniture using hand truck or forklift, onto or from pallets, racks, or shelves to maintain workflow of production cycle and to distribute donated goods.
7.Operate forklift, controlling movement of lifting apparatus, to transfer materials to/from designated area.
8.Handle, load and transport salvage material.
9.Monitor and address performance issues on a timely basis.
10.Comply with Texas Department of Public Safety and other applicable commercial driving requirements. Maintain required license.
11.Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
12.Comply with all company departmental policies, procedures, safety and fuel guidelines.
13.Provide excellent customer service by greeting, assisting, and responding to questions and/or concerns in a positive, professional, and friendly manner.

Other functions:

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
Minimum:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Class C driver’s license.

Preferred:
Some college coursework.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE

Minimum:
1 year of experience driving a vehicle with a standard transmission.

Preferred:
2-3 years of experience driving a vehicle with a standard transmission.

OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMPETENCIES

Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Communicate effectively and quickly with a wide variety of customers, team members and management.
Analyze, evaluate situations, and develop alternatives for conflict resolution.
Knowledge:
Proper operation and routine maintenance of heavy trucks and forklifts.
Texas commercial motor vehicle rules and regulations.
Apply pertinent occupational safety rules and practices.
Safely operate forklift and bobtail truck including the mechanical lift gate.
Drive vehicle in a variety of traffic situations.
Accurately judge distances and spatial relationships while driving.
Excellent knowledge of driver safety regulations.

Abilities:
Ability to market Goodwill Industries and explain the mission to the public.
Ability to anticipate and solve problems, act decisively and persist in the face of obstacles.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team with different levels of team members and management.
