Job Description


  • Help with store carry outs of large items for customers
  • Clean, sort, tag and prepare items to be displayed and sold in the store
  • Work with supervisor to coordinate donations and inventory
  • Move materials and items from receiving or storage areas to store floor or to other designated areas
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves and workstations neat, maintaining clean stocking area, complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Bale clothing and cardboard as needed
  • Unload donations from vehicles placing items in the proper processing areas
  • Insure that customers are assisted with donations, given proper receipts and thanked for their donations
  • Report warehouse concerns to Store Manager


  • Pick up of donations as scheduled
  • Make an assessment as to the condition of donations before accepting items as needed
  • Report vehicle concerns to Store Manager
  • Monitor maintenance of Thrift Store Truck and report as needed
  • Clean the interior of the Thrift Store Truck weekly
  • Verify safety equipment is always available on the Thrift Store Truck
  • Pick up from ECHO Food Bank as scheduled for Social Services and assist with offloading and appropriate storage
  • Assist with seasonal programs for pickups and delivery


  • Clean & stock inventory
  • Assist with store layout and product placement
  • Assist customers with purchases
  • Operate cash register and ring sales
  • Maintain good customer relations and give prompt and courteous assistance to all customers
  • Keep work areas clean and neat to prevent hazards
  • Report all accidents/injuries or property damage immediately
  • Answer telephone and take requests for donation pick-ups, including making an assessment as to the condition and suitability of the donation as needed
  • Monitor customers to insure minimal opportunity for theft and report suspicious behavior to the TS Manager
  • Any other duties as assigned by your immediate supervisor or Corps Officer as they relate to the position of the warehouse, driver, cashier position.

Skill / Requirements

  • Must be 21 years or older with a valid NM Driver’s License
  • Must have high school diploma or G.E.D equivalent
  • 6-12 months experience preferred
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • Have excellent attendance with the ability to be flexible with schedule
  • Must have the ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated experience in warehouse and cash wrap environment
  • Ability to work with the public in a professional manner
  • Must possess the ability to treat customers in a friendly and enthusiastic manner as a representative of The Salvation Army
  • Must possess a positive attitude and be able to work with other people as well as with the team
  • Must be able to understand and carry out instructions related to the use of equipment and use it in a safe manner
  • Must be able to present a neat appearance as a representative of The Salvation Army
  • Ability to count change and process sales
  • Must possess an understanding of the value of second hand items and be able to determine usability for the Store Program
  • Family Must be able to work within established policy guidelines and be able accept directions and follow instruction

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
